Our Program Teaching Philosophy

Embracing Play, Wonder, and Creativity

We believe learning shouldn’t be limited to a desk. Even beyond kindergarten, children learn best through play, hands-on experiences, and exploring their curiosity. Our approach keeps learning fun and engaging, helping kids stay excited about discovering new things.

Recognizing Diverse Intelligences

We know that kids are smart in different ways. Our curriculum supports all types of learning, whether it’s through traditional academic skills or strengths like music, connecting with nature, or visual-spatial awareness. We focus on helping each child show their strengths in the way that works best for them

Enthusiasms

At Bright Schoolhouse, students choose a topic they’re interested in and focus on it throughout the year. They start by sharing what they already know and asking questions to guide their learning. As they research and explore, they create work—like art or writing—to show what they’ve learned. At the end of the year, they present their project at a showcase.

Whole Child Development

We focus on developing the whole child, not just academics. Students work on skills like organization, time management, emotional regulation, and building social relationships. Our mixed-age environment helps kids learn from each other, fostering empathy and self-help skills. We prioritize practical tools that support executive functioning and personal growth.

Bridging Transitions

We help students succeed in their next educational setting. While our approach is alternative, we focus on structure, routine, and clear expectations, ensuring students can take direction and guidance from teachers. Our goal is for them to thrive in traditional environments with the skills and confidence they need.

Collaboration and Community

At Bright, we create a close-knit learning community where students, teachers, and parents work together. Being a small school allows us to focus on each child individually, and strong communication with parents is key to making that work. We believe building strong partnerships and open communication is essential for every child’s success and well-being.
